Next Group Gathering - Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026: 10:30-11:30AM
The Bereavement Group at St. Peter the Apostle Parish has been in existence for more than 10 years. Meetings typically occur on the third Wednesday of the month at 1030 a.m. in the classroom area of the Parish Center. We can also meet one-on-one by appointment. Our attendees may not know each other when they first join our group, but they have shared experiences of sadness, loneliness, denial and depression. Holidays, anniversaries and birthdays can be challenge for us all. Having a safe place to discuss feelings with others who understand all too well what we are feeling, can be very self-affirming. We also know that the journey would be much more of a challenge without our Christian faith. We believed that Christ has suffered and died for us and returned to Heaven to prepare an eternal place for us all. Please consider joining us no matter where you are on your grief journey. Community Supper - Monday, Oct. 12, 2026
All are invited to join us on the second Monday of each month for our monthly Community Supper from 4-6 p.m in our Parish Center Hall in Oakland. We gather in faith and fellowship to share a delicious and hot homemade meal made possible by loving volunteers and generous donors. Bring a friend or come to make friends! At-will donations are appreciated. Complimentary bus service is available from Liberty Square, The Meadows, Underwood South and The Glades. Celebrate Recovery, Women’s Group - Beginning Oct 14, 2026
Are you affected by someone’s addiction? Are you struggling with an addiction, hurt, hang-up, or habit? Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered program that uses the 12 Steps and their Biblical comparisons to help us face life’s challenges in a space built on honesty, grace, and community. Because of the kindness and talent of our caring volunteers and donors, we have a wide selection of handmade Chemo Caps and Prayer Shawls available at our office in Oakland. If you know of an individual, treatment center or an organization that could benefit from a prayerful hug throughout the region, please contact the office. Lending Library - Two Locations
Our parish lending library is available in the Narthex (main entrance) of the Oakland Church and the Lake Center. There is a selection of Catholic books for adults and children. You’re welcome to read during Adoration or borrow a book to take home. We simply ask that books be returned within two-three weeks so others may enjoy them, too. New books are added often.

Fall 2026 Knights' Breakfast Cafe: Our fall 2026 Breakfast Cafe begins on Sept. 21 and will continue every first and third Monday through November 16. 2026 Dates: Sept. 21, Oct. 5, Oct. 19, Nov. 2, and Nov.16. The Breakfast Cafe is held at our Parish Center Hall in Oakland with coffee and donuts at 8:30 AM followed by a hot breakfast at 9 AM. Free-will donations are accepted and appreciated. Please watch our website and Facebook page for weather related cancellations for the Café, our parish office, and other events during the winter months.

Required Training For Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHCs) - October 14
This is the final reminder for the training on the new "Norms" for those serving as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion or "EMHCs" (formerly referred to as Communion Ministers). All current and prospective EMHCs are required to watch one of two online training sessions (October 13 or 14) offered by the Archdiocese.
As a convenience, we are hosting a “Watch Party” on Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 6:30-9PM in the Parish Hall in Oakland. Refreshments will be served. So we may begin the live webinar training on time, please arrive no later than 6:20PM. If you have not already, please RSVP to Michele O’Brien, our Liturgical Team Coordinator

40 Days for Life Fall Campaign ~ October is Respect Life Month

Monday-Friday in October: Please join us for Mass/Communion Service at noon and remain with us to pray the Litany for Life at the beginning of Adoration.
Tuesday, October 13: The Pro Life Team will hold a silent vigil outside the Rawlings Abortion Clinic. All are welcome to pray at home. If you are interested in joining us on site, please contact Michele O’Brien at 301-237-8518.
Wednesday, October 21: we will hold our 40 Days for Life Mass (at noon) and Day of Adoration at our Oakland church, from 8AM-8PM. Please join us for as little or as long as you can to pray for all affected by abortion and for an end to abortion.
Saturday, October 24: The James Isaac House (JIH) in Oakland will hold its annual banquet at the Wisp Resort at 5:30 PM. Feel free to contact the JIH directly or Tom Sheahen or Michele O’Brien for tickets.
Gifts for Life: The Respect for All Life Team is collecting items for the babies and mothers of The James Isaac House. If you would like to help with this ongoing outreach, you’ll find a rack next to the basement door inside the Oakland church to place items such as diapers, wipes, lotions, infant clothing (up to age 2 years old), and even gifts for the new moms, when the church is open. Items may be placed in the basket in the narthex at the Lake Center, as well. Our team members gather and deliver items to the James Isaac House on a regular basis. Thank you for supporting life in such a loving way.
